What does a phytophysiognomic mosaic reveal about mosses and liverworts from the subtropical Atlantic Forest?

چکیده
The Atlantic Forest contains more bryophyte species and greater endemism than any other Brazilian phytogeographic domain. We analyzed the bryoflora of an remnant along southern coast to examine: (i) floristic composition, richness, life forms bryocenological groups in different phytophysiognomies (humid lowlands, sandy Restinga forests, swampy forests); (ii) similarities among them; and, (iii) influence substrate types on richness composition. Sandy forest had greatest richness. Approximately 75 % 42 families were not shared phytophysiognomies. predominant form was mat (46 %) group corticolous (69 %). Elevated differentiation observed (Jaccard values <0.35) substrates sampled (<0.2). uniqueness found physiognomies present study demonstrates importance studying diversity conservation all evaluation bryophytes delimit manage protected areas can contribute effective protection entire biodiversity spectrum. In addition their important ecological roles, are useful bio-indicators valuable tools for monitoring, conserving, restoring ecosystems.

متن کاملWhat Does Motion Reveal About Transparency?
The perception of transparent objects from images is known to be a very hard problem in vision. Given a single image, it is difficult to even detect the presence of transparent objects in the scene. In this paper, we explore what can be said about transparent objects by a moving observer. We show how features that are imaged through a transparent object behave differently from those that are ri...
متن کاملWhat does a light ray reveal about a transparent object?
We address the following problem in refractive shape estimation: given a single light-ray correspondence, what shape information of the transparent object is revealed along the path of the light-ray, assuming that the light-ray refracts twice. We answer this question in the form of two depth-normal ambiguities. First, specifying the surface normal at which refraction occurs constrains the depth...
متن کاملShort-term effects of timber harvest and forest edges on ground-layer mosses and liverworts
Limited information exists on the effects of forest management practices on bryophytes, despite their importance to forest ecosystems. We examined short-term responses of ground-layer bryophytes to logging disturbance and creation of edges in mature Pseudotsuga forests of western Washington (USA). The abundance and richness of species were measured in four 1-ha forest aggregates (patches of int...
متن کاملWhat Does the Comparative Method Reveal about Adaptation?
-It has been suggested recently that new quantitative methods for analyzing comparative data permit the identification of evolutionary processes. Specifically. it has been proposed that new comparative methods can distinguish the direct effects of natural selection on the distribution of a trait within a clade from the effects of drift. indirect selection, genotype-byenvironment interaction. an...
